The Future of Homeland Security

The American land is always under threat, terrorists penetrating into the homeland through sea, land and air and it is the duty of the Homeland Security to prevent that. This department of security has several missions and they are all to keep the United States safe and secure. The DHS has its challenges but still strives to do its job. What is it they do and where is this department of security headed in terms of providing safety? With the help of top 10 essay websites I tried to find the answers.

The core missions of the Homeland Security Department are not limited to one or two, they are in fact several. First of all, the role of the department ever since its creation after the September 11th attacks is to prevent terrorism and enhance security (Doty, 2015). DHS goal to counter terrorism has its challenges, as it works towards implementing solutions that work ,the enemies create new ways of getting through to the country and using innocent citizens to perpetrate wrong. Politics will always get in the way of curbing terrorism, as the divided views of leaders hinder with easy decision making. The department of Homeland Security has to deal with the changes by trying to be independent in implementing its policies towards becoming an effective security department.

Securing and managing the borders effectively cannot work well without cooperation from neighboring countries, thus creating another challenge as the department does its work. Homeland security will only thrive if the laws are enforced and administered in an open clear way, so that there are no loopholes for the Homeland Security while countering terrorism. There is much to be done; the future of Homeland Security is definitely bright as the job they have done over the years is remarkable. With a cooperative government, better immigration policies, controlled and a secure cyberspace building a nation of resilience will be doable (Kemp, 2012).

As the Department of homeland security works tirelessly to enhance security and stop terrorism the local, federal, state and private sector need to come in too, to work together in keeping the nation safe.

Wilson’s quote, “Civilization was purchased by the betrayal of Nature” affirms the current debate of whether revolution that has been experienced by man over the past years has resulted to the detrimental effects of the environment. There is no doubt that significant economic, political, and social global processes have been experienced due to civilization. Not only do these processes influence the natural environment, but the environment itself affects the direction quality, and pace of civilization. Amidst humans being aware of this linkage, the society has neglected the conservation of the natural environment and this has resulted to degradation over the years. It is thus important to address the resulting effects of civilization on nature so as to enhance sustainability.

Since the beginning of civilization, specifically globalization, in the 18th century, the natural environment has degenerated over time. People put value on essential resources such as cars and houses instead of the life-supporting systems, yet overlooking and devaluing the benefits of nature such as storm buffering, flora and fauna services, fisheries, and pest control. This has even resulted to the overexploitation of resources including freshwater pollution, deforestation, erosion of coral reefs, and over-extraction of water. In reviewing the impact of oil shale mining in the United States on the environment, Mangmeechai et al. found out that a lot of energy and water is needed to produce shale oil. More than 90 kWh/bble and 367-400 90 kWh/bble is needed for surface retorting and in situ production respectively. The increased consumption of energy will mean that more stress is put on water to produce electricity. Shale oil production has also been linked to pollution of underground water resources.

As the negative environmental impacts emanate in process of globalization, there exists pessimism in the political arena to implement policies that can save nature. Issues such as greenhouse gas emissions and depletion of the ozone layer have always been mentioned in global gatherings such as the Rio Conference; however, the implementation of the proposed laws have always been blocked. In the U.S, for instance, there has been a proposal of the Greenhouse Emission Reduction Strategy by Henry Waxman in 1992 to combat global warming, but the Congress did not pass it. Similar attempt was also made in 2006 by Waxman and other 12 co-sponsors to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 2% up to 2020, but was again rejected. Such political interference has been experienced in various nations and have resulted to the deteriorating state of the environment.

Human’s lack of interest to conserve nature has resulted to climate change and rising temperatures. As I’ve found out with the help of essay writing education services, Dooley asserts in his study that human beings have increased the consumption of fossil fuels that has contributed to the rising emission of CFCs. He accounts for this phenomenon by recognizing the rapid increase in population; as the number of people rise, more pressure is put on natural resources as well as the utilization of fossil fuels. By driving cars heating homes, mining activities, and lighting, there is a rise in the CFCs. The consumed fossil fuels in the globe result to a release of 27 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases annually. This numbers has resulted to increased climate change resulting to drought, flooding, and extinction of species.

Wilson’s assertion is right; humankind has forgotten the natural environment as they climb their way through better technology. As more revolution occurs, people look for way to increase exploitation; this in turn result to overexploitation, pollution, political interference to conservation as well as climate change. It is important that these impacts are recognized so that solution are provided before all species become endangered. There is a synergy between development and environment; avoiding the linkage is impossible, and thus the society must just address the issues.
